Some thoughts for preachers preparing to preach tomorrow (repost)

Dear preacher,

Tomorrow is Sunday and we are looking forward to being in church (we have already written to the worship leader this week) and hearing the message you will preach. We would like to thank you for the hard work you obviously put into preparing your messages week by week.

Do you mind if we tell you what we are hoping for when you preach? Please don’t take this as some kind of condemnation or an attempt to add to your burdens!

We hope that your message will be clear. It usually is, but – forgive the candour – there are times when we wonder if you are clear in your own mind about what it is that you are trying to tell us.
